The history of the hotel:

Having received the building permit on 25 March, 1885, the hotel was built at its present location. It was first known as "Vigadó", later as "Hotel Metropol"; finally it was renamed "Hotel Tisza" in honour of Prime Minister Kálmán Tisza who had been ministering for 10 years at that time. This is the origin of the hotel's present name. The opening ceremony was held on 23 January, 1886.

The hotel was closed down in 1949. The idea of reopening first arose only in the Spring of 1958. The building was reconstructed at great expenses and on 30 July, 1963 started operation again. The hotel was renovated by the new owners in 1992 -- its historical atmosphere still remained but a wild scale of modern services has been installed.

Hotel Tisza, today the most elegant hotel of Szeged and its region, is situated on Széchenyi Square, the main square of the city. For its pleasant location and special atmosphere recalling the turn of the century, the hotel has become famous and highly popular in the city.
